Patch 04

Hello gamers! Micrometer Squared Studios here again, and this time we've got a niche little patch on our hands. This is the fourth patch out of all of them, with the first patches and update releases being available over on our itch.io page.

So, what's in the patch? This patch in particular is a graphical patch with some tidbits of gameplay improvement here and there. Starting off, we have reworked our recently added feature, which is the blood splatter. Initially, the blood splatter was not too shabby. It splattered, but that's about it. Back then, our logic followed the player's current angle to create the splatter. However, this caused for many abnormalities such as blood splatters going a direction completely opposite of where it had to go, occasional despawns, and so many more issues that couldn't be ignored. So, our new logic for the splatter was that it would autodirect it's angle towards the player's X and Y coordinates, then turn itself 180 degrees. This had created the desirable effect, resulting in imagery such as these two screenshots. Blood splatter 1 Blood Splatter 2

The blood splatters were created to merely add depth and effect to killing an entity, they serve no real gameplay purpose. I still find them fun, however. One more thing that we fixed about the blood splatters was them not working in locations other than Hallways. This is now fixed, yay. In most games, one tends to see various content warnings or suggestions on how to play the game, so we chose to implement our own as well. Devoid, being a horror game that sometimes touches on psychological aspects of the horror genre, also has (while pixellated) blood and violence. Because of this, we decided to rate Devoid as a 15+ game, as seen below. Age restrictions Then, like any good game dev should, we added one of those "Better played with headphones" notifications at the start of the game. Here's a preview:

And for the final few bits for this patch, we've FINALLY FIXED THE ENCOUNTER IN ISOLATION CHAMBERS! For those Devoid players who don't know, a certain encounter in Isolation Chambers creates a time loop due to misconfigurations of the SAVE/LOAD feature of Construct 3. This has now been fixed, along with voicing for the encounter's voice lines being added. The very final thing that we have added to the patch is a death screen. We know that a jumpscare just won't cut it for a death screen, so we made a brand new one, and it's got them fancy run statistics. Oohlala.

Anyways gamers, that's it for the patch. If you wanna play it, check out the download link at IndieDB or our downloads at the itch.io page!

Au revoir once more.
